LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
All local planning authorities must now produce a Local Development Framework (LDF) to replace the old Unitary Development Plan (UDP).
The planning policies in the Local Development Framework set out the criteria to guide planning decisions covering housing, roads, transport systems, public and private spaces, parking facilities, architecture and the design of new buildings over the next twenty years. It incorporates measures to improve local communities and to tackle crime and disorder, and anti-social behaviour.
The Local Development Framework is a collection of documents, prepared with extensive consultation with stakeholders who have an interest in improving Manchester and developing sustainable communities.
The Manchester approach is that the Local Development Framework supports the policies and programmes of the city and its partners.

The Council is currently preparing Manchester's Core Strategy, the document which sets overarching planning policies in terms of location, scale and quality of development for the next 15 years. Examination of this document is currently taking place, and adoption is expected in late spring.
